Photography- Evaluation/ Reflection Unit 5

My final idea for my photography project was about fashion, i chose this genre because i have a passion in fashion and i admire myself to be a fashion photographer in the future, Fashion photography is a genre of photography which is devoted to displaying clothing and other fashion items. Fashion photography is most often conducted for advertisements or fashion magazines such as Vogue. Fashion photographers have inspired me, this is by the images I see, for example Patrick DemarchelierPatrick Demarchelier is a French fashion photographer. This is an example of his work, this work inspires me because of the composition, the model of in the frame and the photographer leaves minimal extra space, the photo is also taken in black and white, which is effective, this is because it shows an old look, which means that the photo looks more detailed. The photo is also low key, Low-key photography is a genre of photography consisting of shooting dark-coloured scenes, and emphasising natural or artificial light only on specific areas in the frame. Another photographer i believe inspired me with my final project is Mario Testino, Mario is a fashion portrait photographer, he is one of the best, if the best at fashion photography, an example of his work that inspired me was this image with the woman that has a towel wrapped on her head, this inspired me because its portrait and i have taken portrait photos for my final project and i believe this has helped me a lot, what i have taken from Mario's work was the Composition and Framing, i took the idea of black and white and change it to colour and i decided to change the backdrop to black, white made my pictures more effective.

Before my final project i took pictures with different types of photography, for example i took photos which were high key, low key,Silhouette, and photos with a red backdrop, these two images are high key, These pictures are high key because the backdrop is white, the camera settings are the main things that makes this high key, the focus was set to manual, this is better because it creates a shallow depth of field in an image, also sometimes it creates a blurry effect to the picture to make it look different, the iso was set to normal, it wasn't too high because if it was it would be too bright, and if it was too low it would be very dark, the lights that were set up were very important, this is because each light has a setting from 1-6, the lights were all set a 4 this is because it balances out the lighting with the iso and the shutter speed.

I tried Silhouette photography which wasn't something that caught my eye, however the example of Silhouette is white backdrop and lights are reflected onto the backdrop to create the effect. Examples of some photos i have taken are shown:
I started to take pictures to find the perfect set up for silhouette photography The first image used no reflector boards, because i did not reflect no light onto the face. The background is used with a softbox, a softbox is a frame with a cloth covering used to diffuse the light from a flash or floodlight. The number on the softbox was 6 this means it was too bright, so the next image the softbox light got lower. The second image has reflector boards, this means that the light reflects of the boards to create a silhouette, however there isn't enough light. Moving onto the third picture i changed the soft box light setting to 4 or 5, to create the right amount of light to the face, as i done this the model also faced towards the reflector boards, and as seen i can see the reflection on her face.

I also tried low key photography, however the example i had taken were really bad, however for my final pictures i done low key, an example of low key would be the male in the white t-shirt, during my planning i've learnt that Low Key Photography is about contrast. You don’t need to have the lights in front. Use your imagination. You NEED a LOW ISO! Use the Boom Pole light. (Number 4) You need the backdrop Black.  Silver Umbrella best for low key.

Before my final project i learnt everything about a Dslr, i worked out each function on the NIKON D7100 BACK AND FRONT. This is what i learnt about a DSLR:

DSLR - Digital Single Lens Reflex
M - Is Manual it controls your aperture and shutter speed. Controls the F stops and Shutter Speed.
LCD - Liquid Crystal Display
Left Number on the LCD- Is the Shutter Speed
The Right number on the LCD- Is the Aperture.
The number is the Bracket- Tells you how many photos your can take.
Bottom left on the LCD- It’s says fine- This is the largest setting which means the better pixels.
The middle thing on the camera- Is called the Hot Shoe mount.
A ON THE DIAL- Stands For Aperture.
S ON THE DIAL- Stands for Shutter Speed.

BACK OF THE CAMERA

Back of the Dial, little button on the top left, push that down to move the bottom dial.

S- Single FPS
CL- 3 FPS
CH- 6 FPS

THE PLAY ICON- SHOWS THE IMAGES AND VIDEOS.

Second icon down is a camera icon, press right, press set picture control, the press OK, VIVID IS COLOUR, MONOCHROME IS BLACK AND WHITE.

4 Buttons of the left hand side of camera,

WB- White Balance

ISO- ISO

Moving onto my final project, i decided to take low key pictures, an example of my final images is the male in a white t-shirt, my inspiration was from Mario Testino, this is because i liked his composition and framing in his work. The purpose of my work was to show my audience, 'fashion' i intended to show the audience the clothing of my model, because i believe it would be the point of focus of the image, i believe i succeed in my project because i believe my photos are appealing to my target audience.
